This wraparound single-storey extension provided a much-needed enlarged kitchen and dining space at the rear of the property, as well as a more-usable garage and workshop, and separate utility room and cloakroom.

As important as meeting the functional needs of the project brief, the scheme was conceived to help improve the relationship between the house and garden; there being limited outlook from the original house to the garden and a substantial level difference separating the two.  With a growing young family, clear sight of the children playing in the garden was a must.

The period nature of the house called for a traditional form, and interconnecting pitched roofs are employed to avoid interference with first foor windows.
