Direct access from the kitchen to a new breakfast terrace to the east of the house formed an integral part of the strategy to better connect the primary living spaces with the rolling gardens. A new reception room was created at ground floor level, whilst the former kitchen area was reconfigured to form a well-appointed utility space, and alterations to the foot of the stairs provided enough space to form a cloakroom, which was previously lacking.
Bi-fold doors and glazed balustrading to the enlarged master and new guest bedroom above provide unhindered views across the garden and the Ouse valley towards the Balcombe Viaduct beyond, and reordering the accommodation turned the old family bathroom into a master ensuite bathroom. The smallest bedroom became a larger family bathroom to serve the existing and new bedrooms.
