Extension, Alteration and Refurbishment in Acton

Dwell has recently completed the extension, alteration and refurbishment of a large Edwardian semi-detached property in Acton for repeat developer client Three Coats Limited.

The scheme comprised the addition of a rear and side single-storey extension to house a huge family kitchen and living space, and loft conversion to add two further bedrooms and second family bathroom.  Plumbing and electrics were overhauled throughout, and new multiroom audio visual and data systems were installed to ‘future-proof’ the house.  Despite the increase in usable space, natural daylight is able to penetrate all rooms from an impressive central lightwell over the main staircase.

Rapid re-thinking following shock planning refusal allowed the project to continue apace.

The decision to develop the property into a large single family house followed the unexpected refusal of planning consent to convert the building into four well-appointed apartments, which had previously received positive pre-application advice from the Local Authority.  Although the proposal stood a good chance of success at appeal, rather than lose a number of months to the appeal process, an alternative solution was developed.  Dwell’s new approach took full advantage of the revised Permitted Development allowances, circumventing the planning issues, and allowed the project to continue in line with the original construction programme.Remodelling incorporated a central lightwell

The completed project has received excellent feedback from the estate agents tasked with its sale, and much interest from the early viewings.
